From 18 to 21 April, the Biennial of Technology returns to Turin

280 speakers, 160 appointments, 25 different locations between main event and Biennale OFF: in Turin, the fundamental role of technology in realising the 'Realist Utopias' of the future is explored.

Back in Turin for its fourth edition is Biennial of Technology, a cultural event conceived and organised by the Politecnico di Torino dedicated to exploring the relationship between technology and society. For the first time, Biennial of Technology will be held in the spring period, that is from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 April following the opening party on Wednesday 17. The title chosen for this edition is "Realist Utopias", an invitation to imagine possible futures with freedom and courage, but with the aim of transforming ideas into projects. Realism and imagination are not mutually exclusive, but, on the contrary, complement each other, to encourage a drive towards new paradigms in the relations between technology, humanity and society. Biennal of Technology thus invites audiences of all ages to cast their gaze towards future perspectives, courageous and concrete at the same time, to imagine together new possible worlds.

Adopting an interdisciplinary approachinterdisciplinary approach, the programme will be developed through the most topical themes in the contemporary debate: ecology, digital, energy, sustainability, environmental risks, artificial intelligence, economic development, work and social inclusion will be discussed in addition to a more detailed analysis of the history and evolution of technology in other cultures, and also war and peace, mobility, health, new development models and new frontiers. A rich and articulated programme based on the close collaboration between the technological sciences and the social and human sciences recalled by the very motto of the event: 'Technology and/is Humanity'.

Stefano Corgnati, Rector of the Politecnico di Torino, said: "Utopias are new points of view, they help us to abandon the logical schemes to which we are accustomed and to trigger new and courageous ideas and thoughts. They are then realistic, i.e. achievable and concrete, when they encounter the knowledge we cultivate with passion. This is the true meaning of the relationship between technology and society, which has always been explored by our event: where a you imagine a better future for all and everyone, with an eye especially on the younger generations, technology can design it in real form and make it possible“.

Biennal of Technology is an initiative of the Politecnico di Torino, realised thanks to the support and collaboration of important institutions, organisations, companies and partners that believe in the value of the project. Awarded for the fourth time with the prestigious Gold Medal of the President of the Republic, the event is realised in collaboration with City of Turin and with the patronage of the Piedmont Region. It has the fundamental support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, Fondazione CRT, Turin Chamber of Commerce, CSI Piedmont, Unione Industriali Torino as part of the initiatives of Torino Capitale della Cultura d’Impresa 2024. The Main Partners of the Biennal of Technology are Intesa Sanpaolo and Iren; the sponsors are also numerous and important: Iveco Group, Lavazza, Collins Aerospace, CNH Industrial, Avio Aero, Pirelli. Media Partner is La Stampa. Many, then, are the collaborations with local institutions and companies, which contribute to enrich the programme and offer of the event, in particular: University of Turin, OGR Torino, International Festival of Economics, Biennal of Democracy and Earth Day 2024.

Over the course of the four days, the 280 speakers, including academics and experts from all over the world, will be hosted in five main venues in Turin: the event's headquarters will be the Politecnico di Torino, while the other locations will be Castello del Valentino, Piazzale Duca d'Aosta, OGR Torino and Piazza San Carlo.
