Punch Torino opens Softronix, a new pole dedicated to electronics

After the investment of €40 mln on green hydrogen, the former General Motors subsidiary continues to invest in our territory.

Punch Torino after the establishment of Punch Hydrocells, a company entirely dedicated to hydrogen-based technology, will create a pole dedicated to electronics, controls and software. The new SBU, Punch Softronix, will be a partial spin-off and will maintain all the 178 people currently working in the Controls department.

Punch Torino, founded in 2005 as the Engineering and Development Center of General Motors, has been incorporated into the Punch Group since 2020 and serves as a cutting-edge research and development center for engines, powertrains and mobility of all kinds. Thanks to the work of its 750 employees, Punch Torino has estimated annual revenues close to €100 million.

Punch Torino, thanks to the skills gained in the mechanical design of propulsion systems, will enrich its offer with the development of innovative solutions with applications in the automotive, marine and industrial fields, with hybrid engines, and with e-Drive systems also in support of the recent joint venture Marelli Electric Powertrain. The company will also continue with its development of urban micro-mobility solutions will also continue thanks to the recent launch of the award-winning Lynx electric scooter.

Alberto Pisoni, Head of the Controls Department at Punch Torino and future COO of Punch Softronix, added: "The decision to establish a company focused on electronics, controls and software stems from the need to enhance the distinctive skills acquired so far in this highly strategic and innovative area. It will also allow us to be even more visible to customers and partners, and to develop even further by attracting new talents from local universities, with easier access to funded projects."
