The Turin startup Biova among the finalists of B Heroes

The circular economy project for the creation of beer from bread that would go to waste will participate in the final stages of the program of Intesa Sanpaolo and Sky, on air from September.

Biova is the startup of Emanuela Barbano, Franco Dipietro and Simone Oro that takes its name from a typical Piedmontese form of bread and has its roots in an idea thousands of years old: using stale bread to make beer, in fact, is a stunt that dates back to ancient Egypt. This project, besides recovering unsold goods which would generate a waste, also allows to avoid an unnecessary waste of energy and raw materials used to make bread.

Of course this project was welcomed with interest by bakers and bread makers, who can see the noble and ancient product of their work enhanced thanks to a second and tasty life. The involvement of large retailers has also been fundamental, Biovaproject started its activity mainly in the North West of Italy to focus its initial efforts on the creation of synergies that would allow the construction of a short distribution chain.

At the moment in Biova's catalog there are 6 traditional beers and 6 special beers that can be purchased on the online shop and in many supermarkets restaurants, trattorias, bars and pubs in Piedmont and Liguria, which can be found on the startup's website.

In September Biova will participate as a finalist in the fourth edition of the Sky Uno program dedicated to startups, realized by Intesa Sanpaolo, B Heroes, Elite and Brand Solutions - Sky Media. The selection that has gone through all Italian has led to a skimming that gives 1,000 candidate companies selected 183 realities that participated in the 26 local selection roadshows. Among these, 16 were selected that in June will compete for access to the investment programs of B Heroes..

The competition will be pitch-based: the evaluations by investors will crown the project that will be named the winner of the program. B Heroes is born from an idea of Fabio Cannavale, entrepreneur and investor, in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo and with the knowledge partnership of McKinsey & Company.
