On Tuesday, December 13, 2023, at the Department of Chemistry took place the first meeting of MOST@UNITO, the group of researchers from the University of Turin engaged in the National Center for Sustainable Mobility (MOST), funded under the PNRR. An initiative coordinated by the Politecnico di Milano, with an investment of €394 million for the first 3 years (2023-2025) with 696 dedicated researchers and 574 new recruits. The MOST Center was created with a clear mission: to accompany the green and digital transition from a sustainable perspective, ensuring the industrial transition of the sector and accompanying local institutions to implement modern, sustainable and inclusive solutions in the cities and regions of the country.
There will be five project vectors, i.e., the areas and technological fields of greatest interest: air mobility; sustainable road vehicles; water transport; rail transport; light vehicles and active mobility. The University of Turin is participating in the MOST program as part of the working group on "Hydrogen and New Fuels". MOST@UNITO will be engaged on topics such as CO2 conversion for e-fuels synthesis, hydrogen logistics, emission analysis and environmental sustainability, and finally, socio-economic impact and legal and regulatory aspects.
There will be the involvement of about 15 researchers, from the Departments of Chemistry, Economics and Statistics Cognetti de Martiis, Law and Cultures, Politics and Society.These will soon be joined by 2 new Fixed-term Researcher A positions and 3 PhD positions.
After a general introduction by Prof. Baricco, coordinator of MOST@UNITO, the objectives of the project were presented and the activities planned for the next three years were defined. With funding of more than 1.75 million euros, acquisitions of new instrumentation are planned, which will enrich the research endowment of the University of Turin. This is a challenge that will require a strong synergy between those who will handle the research and those who will follow the administrative aspects. Fundamental support will in fact be provided by the staff recently acquired by the "SQUADRA Project - SQuadra UniTo di Accompagnamento Della Ricerca di Ateneo per il PNRR", realized thanks to the agreement with the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.
