At the University Scientific Campus of Grugliasco, the first stone of the City of Science and Environment was laid, the result of cooperation between Università degli Studi di Torino, Piedmont Region, Metropolitan City of Turin, Turin Chamber of Commerce, Politecnico di Torino and Municipality of Grugliasco. The investment of 160 million, financed by Intesa Sanpaolo, provides for the construction of spaces for teaching and research, business incubators and spaces open to the public.
The area involved is 22,86 ha., in the territory of the Municipality of Grugliasco, and is one of the most important investments in university buildings in Italy. The activities of the Departments of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Systems Biology will be transferred here, in addition to those already present of Agricultural, Forestry, Food and Veterinary Sciences..
This increased proximity between departments will create new synergies among researchers in areas such as agrifood, sustainable chemistry, renewable energy, materials science, bioeconomics and sustainability. The initiative will double Grugliasco's university population from 5,000 to more than 10,000.
The City of Science and Environment will contribute to aligning the policies of Regione Piemonte with the objectives of the Green Deal of the European Union, promoting the competitiveness of the regional production system, the collaboration between different bodies engaged in research, technology transfer and the attraction of public and private investment..
