Research on Startups and the Innovation System in Turin 2025: all the data

Strong growth in investments, increased by 81%, and an increase in projects involving advanced technologies, with a great focus on Turin in the deep tech field.

The Club degli Investitori, in collaboration with ToTeM Torino Tech Map and with the support of ESCP Business School and Growth Capital, presented today, at the new headquarters of ESCP Turin Campus, the results of the fifth edition of the Research on Startups and Innovation System in Turin.

There were 626 innovative startups and SMEs in Turin at the end of 2024 compared to 675 in 2023. Although the number decreased by 7.3% (in line with the national trend), investments increased from 65 to 253 million.

If Newcleo is excluded , investments reached the figure of 118 million, up 81% compared to 2023, and as many as 81 companies were financed by venture capitalists (compared to 60 in 2023) with 86% of funds invested attracted by the deep tech sector.

Turin is home to more than 30 incubators and accelerators, over 20 professional investors and other institutional operators such as banking foundations with a potential endowment of 1 billion euros for Venture Capital operations, globally, over the next 5/10 years. Named European Capital of Innovation 2024/2025, Turin maintains its position as Italy’s second largest city with over 6,000 employees working in the innovative startup sector.

The level of internationalization is also growing: 64% of companies have a global vocation, 41% have at least one non-Italian resource in the team, 27% raise capital from foreign investors. However, Turin, despite its growth, remains distant from other non-capital European cities such as Lyon, Rotterdam, Barcelona, Zurich, as is Italy from other comparable European nations.

The entrepreneurs involved in the research pointed to the presence of investors, events and specialization as key factors for growth.

Giancarlo Rocchietti, President of the Club degli Investitori, said: “The innovative startup system is rapidly transforming Turin into a deep tech city rich in capital and technologies and capable of attracting startups and international talent. To improve our positioning in the global innovation ecosystem, we need to identify more determinedly the sectors to focus on, strengthen the interaction between the public and private sectors and act on the training and entrepreneurial spirit of young people”.

During the presentation event of the report, organized by ToTeM Torino Tech Map, in addition to the President of the Club degli Investitori Giancarlo Rocchietti, who illustrated the results of the Research, Cosimo Panetta (ToTeM), Alberta Di Giuli (ESCP Business School) Marco Gay (Industrial Union), Giacomo Bider (Growth Capital), Eugenia Forte (Takeoff Accelerator), Emilio Hirsch (Center for Molecular Biotechnology), Leo Italiano (ESA BIC) and Pietro Puglisi (Claris Venture).
