Politecnico di Torino and Milano-Bicocca join forces to strengthen research and innovation

The memorandum of understanding provides for joint projects, academic and professional training, and inter-university mobility in three areas: new materials for energy, air quality and health/biomedical.

The Polytechnic University of Turin and the University of Milano-Bicocca have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting research, technological development and innovation in scientific sectors of common interest. The agreement, signed by the Rector of the Polytechnic, Stefano Corgnati, and the Rector of Milano-Bicocca, Giovanna Iannantuoni, aims to strengthen the synergy between the two prestigious Italian universities, pooling skills and resources to face the main scientific and technological challenges of the future.

The agreement focuses on three priority areas: the development of new materials for energy, the improvement of air quality and innovation in the health and biomedical sectors. The collaboration will take the form of joint projects, shared research initiatives, technical-scientific consultancy and activities for the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge. An innovative aspect of the agreement concerns theexperimentation of new forms of communication and scientific dissemination, with the aim of making the knowledge and experiences of high technological value developed in the two universities accessible to the social fabric.

In addition to research, the protocol pays particular attention to academic and professional training, providing for joint doctoral and advanced training courses, which will promote the mobility of students and doctoral students between the two institutions. This initiative aims to create an integrated and interdisciplinary academic environment, capable of training highly qualified professionals capable of responding to the needs of the labour market and society.

Stefano Corgnati, Rector of the Polytechnic, said: “The agreement signed with the University of Milano-Bicocca represents a strategic opportunity for the evolution of research and the educational offer. The two universities will make their knowledge and laboratories available to create joint research groups together, fully synergistic, thus starting an important joint venture that, starting from excellent training, can arrive at practical application of the highest level. We will also develop a joint internationalization plan, to bring our skills to our hubs in strategic development countries“.

Giovanna Iannantuoni, Rector of Milano-Bicocca, commented: “This collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin represents a significant step to strengthen research in strategic sectors for the future of the country. Pooling skills and infrastructures makes it possible to effectively face the challenges of the energy transition, environmental sustainability and health“.

The partnership, with an initial duration of three years with the possibility of renewal, represents a virtuous model of academic cooperation, demonstrating how the union between different institutions can generate a positive impact on society through research, innovation and quality training.
