2030 Academy: solutions proposed by UniTo's Startup Creation Lab for a sustainable future

From hi-tech projects to reduce food waste to AI-based psychological support: students from the University of Turin present revolutionary ideas for a sustainable future.

As part of the 2030 Academy at the University of Turin, emerged 12 projects that address global challenges in innovative ways. These hi-tech ideas, developed by young participants of the Startup Creation Lab, span a variety of topic areas, from combating food waste to managing stress among medical professionals.

The event, which featured the selection of these projects, is in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in 2015. These goals address a wide range of issues, including poverty, quality education, gender equality, clean energy and climate action.

The goal of the 2030 Academy is to provide participants with the skills and support needed to develop entrepreneurial solutions that respond to these global challenges. The young people worked together, forming multidisciplinary teams composed of students from different faculties and with diverse backgrounds. The result was the selection of twelve promising projects from more than 300 applications.

Leveraging technological expertise, participants proposed innovative solutions that address current environmental and social challenges. From designing renewable energy solutions at smart cities, from thecircular economy at digital platforms, these projects cover a wide range of sectors and offer concrete solutions to address current issues.

Among the selected projects are solutions to address housing scarcity, to improve learning processes, to monitor energy consumption and to introduce innovative technologies in agriculture. One of the interesting aspects emerging from the selected projects is the natural integration of Artificial Intelligence as a key component, used for data analysis and to support the efficiency of organizations in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, energy and transportation.

Some innovative projects, such as Olidays, aim to improve the process of matching labor supply and demand, while MyecoPak proposes innovative and environmentally sustainable packaging. The project FoodFlow uses AI to monitor food consumption, alerting on foods nearing expiration and helping to avoid waste. Similarly, Buddywork aims to provide psychological support through AI to deal with stress among professionals, such as doctors. These projects, which leverage advanced technologies and AI, offer a new approach to promoting sustainable development, linking environmental, social and economic well-being.
