Three hydrogen car concepts developed by Hyundai with IED Turin

Students from the European Institute of Design have taken up the challenge to imagine, design and shape their own concept of the car of the future.

Hyundai, already one of the first groups in the automotive sector to believe in and invest first in hybrid and then in electric cars, is also at the forefront in the development of technologies linked to the use of hydrogen as a fuel. As proof of this commitment, the South Korean automotive group activated a collaboration between its European Style Centre and the IED European Institute of Design of Turin. The result was three concept cars equipped with a hydrogen engine.

The first collaboration between Hyundai and IED Turin dates back to 2014, when the PassoCorto concept carsaw the light of day, born from a simple question posed to students: "design the car of your dreams". That year, the car was presented in 1:1 scale at both the Geneva Motor Show and the Fuorisalone in Milan, during Design Week.

After collecting 11 projects realised by 43 thesis students of the course in Transportation Design 2021/22, made in 1:4 scale, have been selected three finalist projects. challenge proposed by Hyundai Motor Company, entitled “Progress for Humanity”, aimed to make people's lives easier and safer thanks to advanced technologies.

The stages included exterior and interior design, brand and market analysis, 3D modelling and video rendering of the proposed projects. The three projects that were chosen at the end of the process were HYDRONE_01, ASKJA and AVA.

HYDRONE_01

Realised by Sara Conte, Emilio Palmieri and Francesco Pizzitola, this model is inspired by the world of gaming: a 14.4 ft long car, with a sporty style and dedicated to all driving enthusiasts, both real and virtual through video game.

ASKJA

This model, in the crossover segment, was designed by Riccardo Seveso, Adam Marian Cal, Giorgio Bonetti and Arthur Brecht Poppe. The zero-emission engine, which can be fitted with two external cylinders, offers a high-performance and sporty yet sustainable drive for long-distance road journeys..

AVA

Coupé designed by Luca Orsillo, Pietro Artigiani, Nicolò Arici and Federico Boasso. Its design leaves components and powertrain visible, and is characterised by an asymmetrical aerodynamic study of the frontal elements.
