Politecnico and Cisco together once again, for Turin and startups

The university and the ICT multinational have renewed their collaboration in the field of cyber security.

Optical fiber and cyber security are at the heart of the new agreement signed between the Politecnico di Torino and Cisco Systemsthe Californian information technology giant. So far the two companies have collaborated for training and research activities and in the production of various scientific publications.

PoliTO, as a result, consolidates its position within the FILIERASICURAinitiative, a project of CINI (Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale Informatica) which aims to exploit cutting-edge methods and tools to fight cyber attacks that could affect national infrastructures such as electricity or water networks. In this project, the Politecnico di Torino is working along with the Research Centre of Cyber Intelligence and Information Security of the Sapienza University of Rome, IMT of Lucca, the Polytechnic of Milan, the University of Naples Federico II, the University of Genoa, the University of Trento and the University of Venice Ca' Foscari, in partnership with Cisco System and Leonardo Aerospace.

Our innovation ecosystem, in this context, will enjoy significant advantages in the transfer of technological skills to startups, in the dynamics of internationalization, in encouraging entrepreneurship and in supporting the implementation of joint strategies for the digital evolution of local industries. There will also be many advantages for students, researchers and companies thanks to this synergy between Politecnico di Torino and Cisco: experimental thesis, research sponsored by large multinationals, PhDs, I and II level masters and new hybrid training models between in-presence and distance learning. All these initiatives may also include the inclusion of third party partners in the projects following the signing of specific agreements related to the activities that will be carried out.

Enrico Mercadante, Lead of Specialist Team and Innovation leader of Cisco Italia said that this collaboration will "develop innovation, offering and receiving stimuli that allow us to improve our technologies, and coming into contact with the best talents. We renew the agreement with the goal of doing even more, together, to help talented young people, startups, the business world to grow and take full advantage of the competitive potential of a digitization that is supported by increasingly accessible and secure next-generation networks".
