Planet Smart City acquires 100% of Djungle

An important deal between the two companies, both born in Turin, has just been completed, with the aim of developing new services for Planet's housing offer

Do you remember Djungle, the Turin startup we interviewed last month? Born in 2017 with the aim of bringing innovation to the retail sector by rethinking customer loyalty thanks to the introduction of gamification and big data, it quickly achieved important milestones and reached the goal of 1 million in sales in just 3 years.

The digital revolution has begun for the co-founders Giulietta Testa and Alessandro Nasi 2021 is off to a great start: Djungle, in fact, has been acquired by Planet Smart City, a proptech company and world leader in the field of design and implementation of sustainable and affordable cities, neighborhoods and smart homes.

Planet, born in Turin and headquartered in London, had opened 2020 with a funding round of 24 million, bringing its capital to 100 million, and should record a turnover for the last year of over 50 million dollars (+ 180% compared to 2019). The areas currently of greatest interest to the company are those with housing emergencies: in April, in fact, a social housing project started in India, in the city of Pune, where 1,000 futuristic homes will be built - but at decidedly affordable prices - that will go to make up a smart district of 21,000 square meters. Four projects are already underway in Brazil: Smart City Laguna, Smart City Natal, Smart City Aquiraz and Viva!Smart.

This merger, among other things, will provide for the growth of the Planet Appfunctionalities: a virtual environment for the creation and aggregation of smart communities that will benefit from Djungle's expertise, integrating engagement and member retention activities based on gamification. The strength of the community and the sense of belonging to it will be an important asset for the London-based group that will be able to strengthen the internal ties of its smart residential units by improving services and promoting responsible and virtuous behaviors both from a social and environmental point of view: sharing economy, energy saving, waste disposal, use of surplus food.

Gianni Savio, CEO of Planet said: "It is important that this is happening between two companies born in Turin, by entrepreneurs from Turin: it proves that the city is starting to find a new dimension, has the ambition to export new ideas to the world and is also ready to welcome projects that fuel its economic growth".
