BionIT Labs , a young startup from Lecce that designs bionic hands, has closed a €3.5m investment round led by Cdp Venture Capital SGR and the Fondo per la Ricerca e l’Innovazione Rif, run by Equiter and aimed at supporting research and innovation in the South. The startup currently employs more than 20 people from all over Italy, including biomedical, electronic, mechanical, computer engineers, business and financial experts.
Adam's Hand is the world's first bionic hand activated by the user's muscle impulses, offering great ease of use, high resistance and a sustainable cost for the wearer. The device, which is in an advanced testing phase, will arrive in Italy early next year with the aim of rapidly scaling up to expand to the rest of Europe and the US, the world's largest prosthetic market.
Francesca Ottier, Head of the Italy Venture II Fund, explained: "Medical technology has made great strides and developed solutions that improve people's daily lives“.
Carla Patrizia Ferrari, CEO of Equiter, added: "This operation allows us to invest, through the Rif Fund and, for the first time together with Cdp Venture Capital, in an innovative startup that represents national excellence. The Rif Fund is managed by Equiter, which to date has carried out 13 transactions for over EUR 76 million“.
