Turin startup WaterView awarded by Safety Tech, an initiative of Eni and Cariplo to improve safety on the workplace

The three startups are awaiting a series of meetings with Eni to find potential practical applications of their solutions in the multinational company's activities.

Proxxi, WaterView and Distran are the winning startups of Safety Tech: the three winners stood out among the eleven startups that took part in the Selection Day, after passing a selection among more than 40 startups and innovative SMEs that applied to the initiative.

The three startups are now awaiting a series of face-to-face meetings and in-depth discussions with Eni's management to identify the useful uses of the proposed technologies for the multinational company and apply them to new projects developed in collaboration. Cariplo Factory will also be involved in this phase, to evaluate the innovative potential of services and products in the field of security applied to the energy sector.

The areas of interest of the initiative

The companies that competed for the victory respond to different types of needs in three main macro-areas: tools to make visible to the operators the risks present in the plants in order to make them operate in conditions of increasing safety, tools to interpret the present and predict the future of the energy sector and advanced tools for the plants, able to reduce the exposure to risks of the operators and improve the health and environmental aspects, as well as those in terms of safety.

The three selected startups

Proxxi

A Canadian company specializing in the development of wearable technologies and products for workplace safety, particularly in electricity-related contexts.Their product Voltage is a wrist-mounted sensor that can detect energized equipment, alerting the user of the danger they are in while working. This device also includes monitoring software to track the risks employees run while working and prevent any accidents.

Waterview

Born as a spin-off of Politecnico di Torino, WaterView, thanks to a combination of computer vision, meteorology, hydrology and environmental modeling, offers a big data collection and analysis technology useful for making precise predictions regarding precipitation, temperature, visibility, fire risks, flooding risks, snow accumulation and ice formation. The video surveillance networks acquire the images and a video analysis software studies the light traces that signal the presence of water in the acquired images. In this way it is possible to effectively monitor the atmospheric phenomena and the environmental parameters to which the infrastructures belonging to the energy network are subjected.

Distran

Specializes in the production of ultrasonic cameras including the Ultra Pro model, a portable ultrasonic camera that can accurately detect gas leaks 10 times faster than other techniques and from several meters away. Compressed air, methane, nitrogen and steam leaks are detected by the 124 built-in microphones and wide-angle cameras to reconstruct and map the exact location of the leak.
