The human side of technology on display at Circolo del Design in Turin

The exhibition will be open to the public until September 30, thanks to the Interaction Design Institute of Ivrea.

Humanizing Technology is the exhibition with which the Circolo del Design of Turin reopens, focused on the use and human interaction with the technologies that are increasingly populating our daily lives.

The human being is at the center of the technological process in the development and design of user interface and user experience, in the development of technologies useful to the world of work, in the invention and development of new games and gaming systems, in sociality, both physical and digital, but also in the improvement of public services.

The pieces on display are offered by theInteraction Design Institute of Ivrea, founded in 2000, which has had the merit of placing the city in an important position on the global innovation scene thanks to the development, dissemination and teaching of the principles of interaction design, attracting talents from all over the world. Among the projects born from the minds of the institute in Ivrea are Arduino, an open-source electronic prototyping platform that allows users to create interactive electronic objects, and many technological innovations that have been the basis for creating services such as smart payments, internet reservations, car sharing and many other services that are now part of our daily lives.

The exhibition is divided into six sections:

  1. The design philosophy of Interaction Design Institute Ivrea: the mantras "design the right thing" and "design in the right way" explained through the success stories of the institute.
  2. Room of historical objects: among others, the book Ergonomics at Olivetti by Bruno Scagliola, the poster Save our Planet, Save Our Cities! by Buckminster Fuller from 1971 e Program 101 the calculator considered the first model of personal computer in history, created by Olivetti in 1964, will be on display.
  3. Temporal path: in this section we will retrace the stories of various interaction design projects, both Italian and international, explaining the context and the challenges faced over the decades by those who have curated them.
  4. Video Library: ten unpublished videos produced by Circolo del Design to illustrate the meaning of the interaction designer's work and its even more central role today, in an increasingly connected world.
  5. Roll of Honor: this room displays the winners of the student design competition Our Data and Global Wellbeing, organized in collaboration with the Interaction Design Association (IxDA).
  6. The last 15 years of Interaction Design: selection of 20 interacion design projects born from as many calls of Circolo del Design, such as the projects ToNite, #EGIZIO2015, Lavazza Deséa and Arduino.
