628 mln € invested in startups in Italy in the first half of 2021: the Turin-based companies involved

The figure revealed by Startup Italia's report: almost matched, in just 6 months, the investments of the whole 2020.

According to public media reports, in the first half of this year, startups in Italy have already raised €628 million in rounds, crowdfunding and business angel investments. Throughout 2020, the figure had reached 700 million so what's on the horizon is a potentially record-breaking year that could bring the 2021 amount well over 1 billion euros invested in the Italian innovation ecosystem.

The report by Startup Italy highlights how the interest in investments in startups in our country is growing with 10 operations that have exceeded 10 million euros each, collected both on the national territory and from foreign funds. Crowdfunding is also becoming more and more successful, with +10 million collected compared to the same period last year.

The rounds of this semester that involved the Turin ecosystem

In the period January-June 2021 there were over 85 investment operations throughout the country. Let's take a look at the most relevant ones that involved startups, incubators, accelerators and investors from Turin.

Fitprime, the startup that allows you to practice your favorite sporting activity whenever and wherever you are, with a single monthly subscription, announced that it has closed a 2.5 million investment involving Club degli Investitori.

ToothPic, the Turin-based startup born from the work of four researchers at the Politecnico di Torino invented, designed, developed and patented a solution to turn any smartphone into a key for online authentication, and has closed a € 810,000 financing with the participation of Club degli Investitori.

At the end of January, CDP Ventures Capital SGR and Digital Magics announced that they had invested 14 million in 12 startups including AWorld, an innovative startup with offices in Turin and New York that has created a social-gamified platform that rewards users for sustainable actions and behaviors, using the gamification system.

Leaf Space, aerospace startup specialized in providing orbital services operated by microsatellites and incubated by I3P of the Polytechnic of Turin has completed its Series A investment round of € 5 million.

Tau, electric mobility startup with based in Turin, raised € 6.75 million from two Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds, the Russian Direct Investment Fund and a German manager.

ACBC, a startup focused on the production and sale of eco-sustainable sneakers, closed a € 3.2 millioncapital raise, involving Club degli Investitori.

Sportclubby, a startup based in Turin and specialized in sports and wellness booking, closed a € 950,000 financing thanks to the participation of Finpiemonte.

Ricehouse, an innovative startup and benefit company based in the Biella area that uses waste from rice processing to create natural materials for green building, has closed a capital increase of € 600,000 with the entry of new members in the corporate structure, including ImpactHub.

ARISK is an innovative startup spin-off university of the Politecnico di Torino that develops machine learning algorithms applied to engineering to predict certain types of risk. It closed a € 350,000capital raise, which saw the entry of private investors.

Everli, the Italian marketplace (which now also operates in Poland, the Czech Republic and France) for ordering groceries at home online from city supermarkets, raised $100 million in a Series C funding round. An operation involving Innogest and Club degli Investitori.

GreenBone Ortho SpA, one of the most innovative companies in the Italian medtech scene, active in the field of bone regeneration, has closed a series B round of € 10 mln supported by existing investors, including Innogest. The operation brings the total current fundraising to the figure of 22 million euros.

AorticLab, based at Bioindustry Park by Colleretto Giacosa (TO) is a startup producer of Embrace, an innovative filter for anti-embolic protection during cardiac surgery. After successfully completing the experimental treatment of the first three patients, it has raised € 1.4 million, with the contribution of Club degli Investitori.

Electra Vehicles, a company already present in the U.S. and Japan that specializes in the production of battery cells for electric cars, has cashed in on a $ 1.15 mln by Club degli Investitori and LIFTT, a venture capital fund created in collaboration between the Politecnico di Torino and the Compagnia di San Paolo.

Xnext, an innovative startup that uses X-rays to study the chemical-physical characteristics of materials, closed a €5 mln capital increase led by Neva First managed by Neva Finventures, the Intesa Sanpaolo Group's venture capital firm wholly owned by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center.

Endostart, a startup that developed an endoscopic platform for diagnostics through colonoscopy closed an € 8.2 mln capital raise led by LIFTT.

Drivesec, a startup specializing in automotive and IoT device cybersecurity, closed a € 400,000 with LIFTT.

Letsell, a Turin-based e-commerceplatform, launched a € 3 mlncapital raise, underwritten for € 1 mln by LIFTT.

Young Platform, the fintech startup that wants to simplify the exchange and trading of cryptocurrencies for users of all experience levels, closed a € 3.5 mln funding round reaching a total value of € 18.5 mln.
